What To Look For In Quality Retirement Homes

Blog

If you have a parent who is considering moving to an assisted living facility or retirement home, such as The Cedars, you certainly want them to be comfortable and well taken care of. Before you decide where your parents will be staying, there are several important features to look for when choosing the right one. These important qualities can help you with making the right choice when it comes to finding the best place for your loved ones.

On Staff Nurses

Most people would assume there is an on-staff doctor at all retirement homes, but this is not always the case. However, there are always fully trained nurses on duty in a quality nursing home. They can make medical decisions if someone needs assistance and can help assess emergencies if they arise. These nurses understand how to treat and care for the elderly so that their loved ones will have peace of mind.

Amenities

An appealing retirement home should offer its residents all kinds of amenities to make their lives richer and fuller. Gyms, swimming pools, and courtyards are a good way for seniors to stay active and socialize. Some homes will also feature classes like sewing and arts and crafts and have wonderful cafeterias where everyone can gather together for a meal. Select retirement homes also provide tennis courts and fun activities like movie nights.

Professional Services

In order for seniors to enjoy their stay at a retirement home, they need to be able to feel independent. Services like transportation to shopping and dining can contribute to a better sense of well-being and freedom. Landscaping services around the facility also help to improve the appearance of the residents' home. Other professional services can include chefs, housekeepers, a front desk staff, and even physical fitness trainers.

New Relationships

Many retirees and elderly have found that living in an assisted living or retirement home environment has given them a new opportunity to make new friends. These communities create a sense of bonding between residents, and provides them with other to talk to who can relate to their own experiences. By living in a place with those of a similar age, residents will find that they develop new healthy relationships with others that can be enjoyable and pleasant. Of course, family members can always come to visit but this new lifestyle is also important for those who are ready to move into the next phase of their life in a comfortable place.

the positive impact of nursing homes

My mother had been living with my family for about four years before her health got so bad that I couldn't keep her in my home any longer. At that point, I really had no choice but to find a comfortable nursing home for her to move into. This wasn't an easy decision for me to make, but it was the only thing I could do to ensure she was getting the best care possible during her final days. I was pleased to find a wonderful nursing home that provided her with amenities that she could enjoy and a caring staff that would care for her.
